When I rode my bike home after bocce last week, what I was loving reliving something I saw on the courts.
It wasn’t an amazing rail shot to turn the game around with a “Bay.” It wasn’t a “kiss” that shifted the sails on a match.
Something else.
It happened on every court, after every match.
Two teams walking to the middle of the court, and doing the craziest thing. Hugging each other.
It’s so much more than a hug. It’s everything—that hug is carrying.
A year and a half of what we’ve been through, and every bit of the promise of tomorrow. With no words, those hugs are saying, “I’m in this with you—for the hard part, and for the good part coming.”
Everything, everything that’s beautiful about the Palisades—is right there in that hug.
Nobody keeps score of it.
But it’s the thing we’re really playing for.
